Plein Air Paintings

Plein air, or painting outside in the fresh air, has become very popular in the last decade.  There are real challenges to painting en plein air, such as bugs flying into your painting and becoming a part of the composition, the clouds flying past too quickly, and of course, the sun and shadows ever changing. Maybe that's why I enjoy plein air painting; it's a challenge and I love challenges and pushing myself outside of my comfort zone. It also allows me to travel and paint anywhere, not just in my studio. I also tend to paint fast, so plein air painting suits me well.
